Brain Care Score
The Time for Action is Now!
It shows that even people with a higher genetic risk for stroke, late-life depression, and dementia who improve their BCS can lower their risk. The study found that a 5-point increase in BCS was linked to a:
-
30% lower risk of stroke
-
35% lower risk of late-life depression
-
18% lower risk of dementia
These results show that making healthy lifestyle changes can help people lower their risk of developing these conditions, even those with genetic risk factors. The study highlights how important it is to take care of your brain to keep it healthy as you get older.
Understanding Your Brain Care Score
Your personal Brain Care Score is built around three key areas:
-
Physical:Â Measures like blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and BMI. These numbers can improve with guidance from your healthcare provider and small, steady lifestyle changes.
Â
-
Lifestyle:Â Habits such as diet, alcohol use, smoking, exercise, and sleep. Even small improvements in one area can make a big difference in your overall score.
Â
-
Social Emotional: Stress management, strong relationships, and a sense of purpose all play a vital role in your brain’s long-term health.
Â
By improving your score and maintaining it month after month, and year after year, you’re taking powerful steps to protect your brain as you grow and thrive.
About the Brain Care Score
We are partnering with the Global Brain Care Coalition (GBCC) to use the Brain Care Score (BCS) to lead a new global movement in preventive brain health. The BCS gives individuals and communities the tools to take charge of lifelong brain health—reducing the risk not only of dementia, stroke, and late-life depression, but also heart disease, diabetes, and several types of cancer.
This represents a major shift—from treating brain diseases after they appear to actively promoting brain care for life. Unlike traditional risk prediction tools, the Brain Care Score was designed not simply to estimate risk, but to inspire and support meaningful behaviour change through evidence-based, actionable recommendations.
